FELINE HYPERTHYROIDISM: Treatment with Iodine 131

FIRST AND ONLY CENTRE IN ITALY

Definitive cure for Hyperthyroidism,

now it’s possible!

Hyperthyroidism is the most common endocrine (hormonal) disease in cats. It is caused by the presence of excessive amounts of thyroid hormones in the bloodstream. In 97% of cases, the cause is one or more benign nodules within the thyroid gland. These nodules produce excess thyroid hormones, which over time lead to potentially fatal metabolic changes. In only 3% of cases, the cause is a malignant tumour (carcinoma) of the thyroid gland. Radiometabolic therapy with Iodine 131 is considered the best treatment, the "gold standard," for feline hyperthyroidism, whether the tumour is benign or malignant. A single administration of Iodine 131 is enough to achieve a cure. It is the safest and most effective therapy available. This is a non-invasive, low-risk treatment, with a cure rate of around 95%. The Spinnato Veterinary Clinic is the first and only centre in Italy to offer Iodine 131 therapy for the treatment of Hyperthyroidism.

Our patients in their enclosures:

Our patients stay in their enclosures in a calm environment, away from strangers and other animals. They have a spacious area where owners can bring personal items (bed, cushion, and bowl...).

Each enclosure has a large raised shelf where cats can rest while feeling safer. In addition, each patient is monitored 24/7 thanks to three internal cameras in every enclosure.
